Back in Houston

We went home to Post on Wednesday and had a couple days to tie up some loose ends (disconnect utilities, pack necessities, etc.) and we headed back to Houston. We planned on staying in Post until at least Monday or Tuesday of next week, but Christina wasn't feeling well and was having difficulty breathing last night. We left from Post at 6:00 this morning and just arrived in Houston tonight. I'll post more later on Christina's progress.

One amazing thing that happened while in Post was that baby Aubre started walking!!

I'll try to post pictures of her walking later.

About Me

This is Christina's story:

Our beautiful daughter Christina was born July 15, 1989. At 5-weeks-old, she developed a tumor the size of a grapefruit and it was wrapped around her gallbladder and was pushing up on her liver.

At just one-month-old, my Christina was wheeled into surgery to have her gallbladder removed, along with 40% of her liver.

At 3-months old, doctors did exploratory surgery on Christina because her bile had quit draining into the bag she had attached.

In February, 1990, Christina was 7-months old and again had to have surgery to remove all the attachments her tiny body had been sent home with. In the mean time, she developed biliary atresia. At 12-years-old, she developed esophageal varicies.

At 13-years-old, she developed E-coli in her blood and doctors went in and attached a colonostomy bag.

In February 2004 (15-years-old) the colonostomy bag was surgically removed and Christina had a consultation for a new liver. She was not expected to make it to the age of 15. God said otherwise.

On November 09, 2004, she was given the gift of a new liver. We asked the doctors if perhaps Christina could possibly have a child of her own in the future and the doctors said yes.

Christina graduated from high school in 2007 and then began classes at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas.

In January 2011, Christina found out she was expecting, and on July 12, 2011, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Aubre Lenae. Christina's liver started going downhill. School was always important, and despite all the health problems she faced, and just one semester later than planned, she graduated with honors in 2012 with her bachelor's degree. Christina, although admitted into the hospital on graduation day, she was given a pass to go to her graduation and then return to the hospital. You can imagine the tears of joy and incredible pride my husband and I felt as she was wheeled in her wheelchair to receive her degree!

Christina has been hospitalized for weeks now in Houston, Texas. She has been too weak to even hold her baby.

She is back on the list for another liver transplant and has plans to go to graduate school when she's healthy again.
